Different Lifestyles – Different Dialect Attitudes?

The paper presents an ongoing project that explores language attitudes of Hungarian village people towards (their) dialects. The study is based on the digital archive of the ‘New General Atlas of Hungarian’ (NGAH) in which hundreds of interviews were recorded between 2007–2012 in the Hungarian language area but it has not been processed comprehensively. The ongoing, individual project (2020–2023) undertook to analyze the inland sociolinguistic interviews (almost 600), and the present paper shows the results so far and their lessons learned. Both the NGAH and the individual projects were/are supported by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
